A MESSAGE FROM KATHERINE SHAFFNER OF THE MARVELETTES
I had a shocking experience on Saturday July 16, 2005
Every year here in INKSTER they have what is called an Inksterfest, which is a big party for the area. Well this year was no different. I decided to take my grandson to the festivial when it got dark to see the fireworks. It was pouring down raining, but he still wanted to go . We walked around for a while then I saw 3 girls, dressed alike in party type dresses and I said to myself they must be the entertainment. WHAT TO MY SURPRISE, WAS A GROUP CALLED LADEEZ FEATURING MARVELETTES REVIEW, but the topper was BILLY WILSON( the Motown Alumni Association Pres.) was there too.
They got nervous when they (Billy) saw me because when I walked in, thought I saw him but I said no why would he be here in Inkster and it raining cats & dogs. Diane said that she was told it was The Marvelettes, and said we are going to see them. Diane is a young lady that performed us at the gold record thing with other ladies from the area. IN fact they introduced them as the girls after they saw me there. After a while I went up front to see Sylvia who was sitting on the front row, and I told her I was there to see the MARVELETTES, and she said how could they do that, I mention that they couldn't unless they thought they would get away with it.
I didn't call Billy because I didn't want to hear any LIES because as I told someone l was born at night, but not last night. Billy had something to do with it I don't know what but he had something do with. Otherwise why was he there????????
I said all of this to let you know that you can't TRUST anyone even if they say they are working for you using the name of MOTOWN.

EURxtra: Diddy To Host MTV Video Awards / Usher Has Most Staying Power
MISSY, STEFANI SCORE MTV VIDEO NODS: Diddy hired to host the Aug. 28, water-themed spectacle in Miami; Kanye to perform.
Missy Elliott and Gwen Stefani each six MTV Music Video Award nominations -second only to punk rockers Green Day, who led the pack with eight, the network announced Monday.
POP GOES THE USHER: Dupri, Simmons, Clive Davis and others speak anonymously - on the state of pop music.
With the promise of anonymity, Los Angeles Times' music writer Robert Hilburn convinced a number of industry players to speak candidly about today's pop music stars and to vote for the artists they believed would sell the most albums.
With the promise of anonymity, Los Angeles Times’ music writer Robert Hilburn convinced a number of industry players to speak candidly about today’s pop music stars and to vote for the artists they believed would sell the most albums.
One exec said about Eminem: "I feel his moment has come and gone." Regarding Britney Spears, another said: "Trust me, she's over." And someone called Christina Aguilera “too volatile” to remain relevant.
Yet, the majority agreed that Usher has some staying power. Among the 21 polled bigwigs under L.A. Times’ witness protection – including BMG's Clive Davis, Interscope Geffen A&M's Jimmy Iovine, Sony Music's Don Ienner and artist/executives Kanye West and Jermaine Dupri. – 17 placed Usher in their top 10, while six made him their No. 1 pick.
"He could be the Michael Jackson of this decade," says a label head, referring to Jackson's former pop reign. Alicia Keys came in second on the tally, called the Los Angeles Times’ 2005 Pop Power List.
"Alicia has the talent to make any type of record she wants," said a label head. "She can do a jazz album, a pop album, a Broadway album and make it sound fresh and inspired."
Fifteen of the executives placed her among the top 10; two listed her first. That's the strongest showing ever for a female artist on the Pop Power List, which has been assembled four times since 1985.
Not everyone thought Eminem is approaching has-been status. He was ranked among the top three hot properties by nine executives, however, 10 executives left the Detroit rapper completely out of their top 10, leaving him to finish fourth overall behind Coldplay (the only rock act in the top 10).
The rest of the Top 10, in order: Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, OutKast, 50 Cent, Kanye West and Dr. Dre.
The following artists also appeared on more than three lists: Josh Groban, Green Day, U2, No Doubt/Gwen Stefani, Linkin Park, Maroon 5 and John Legend.

FITTY CAN'T STOP SELL OF 'ORIGINAL 50' DVD: Rapper's motion for an injunction against Czar Ent. was denied.
All he needed was a 'lil' bit' of love from the judge, but ultimately, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson was denied his motion for an injunction against further distribution of the DVD "The Infamous Times - Volume I: The Original 50 Cent."
A federal court in Los Angeles also refused his request that he be given an accounting of the DVD’s sales to date.
The rapper claimed in his lawsuit that the use of his rap moniker “50 Cent” in the DVD title violated his trademark. However, the court on Wednesday ruled that it was likely that the film’s producers Czar Entertainment would win its argument that the use of “50 Cent” in the title was legitimate under federal trademark law. The court also found that consumers are not likely to believe that the rapper had produced the DVD or was otherwise responsible for its distribution.
50’s lawsuit also claimed that the producers reneged on a promise to donate money to the family of Kelvin “50 Cent” Martin – the Brooklyn gangster whose name 50 adopted - in lieu of payment for an interview. The court ruled that, even if that claim was true, it did not justify halting distribution of the DVD.
“We are gratified that the court found that there was nothing improper in the DVD’s title or the way in which we are marketing it,” said Jimmy “Henchmen” Rosemond, CEO of Czar Entertainment and manager of The Game. “We remain convinced that there is absolutely no merit to Curtis Jackson’s lawsuit and that it should never have been filed. We believe it was filed more as an attempt to further his childish campaign of jealousy against The Game and his management than to vindicate any legitimate legal rights.”

The State Of Black Los Angeles In 2005: 'A Ladder Of Hope,' Or A Slide Of Regression? (Part 2 of a two-part series) by: Anthony Asadullah Samad
The State of Black Equality in Los Angeles (SBELA), as chronicled in the United Way/Los Angeles Urban League study, is not a reflection of how bad Blacks are doing, but how well others are doing in pursuit of a better quality of life. African Americans can't blame others for leaving them behind.
They can blame themselves for allowing it to happen,in not being vigilant about black issues, in not being watchful of emerging trends, including the return of "Negrophobia" (my topic next week), in not being strategic in developing communities that prosper and growth, and in not being willing to offer critique, and enact punishment on those who betray our interest.

REAL LYFE: Dropping Excess Baggage by: Pastor Rich
When God wants to bless you, He'll bring a person into your life. Likewise, when the enemy wants to destroy you, he'll also bring a person into your life. When God wants to protect you, He'll remove someone from your life and when He wants to change the seasons in your life someone will enter your life who sees what you cannot see and does something you cannot do yet this person believes in you.
LISTEN UP: When the enemy wants to destroy you he will send a person in your life that will magnify your weaknesses (or in other words, 'cause some people may be slow, you'll be in bed before you know it or you'll be right back in the situation you prayed to get delivered out of)!!! They'll blind you to your focus and your destiny and magnify your flaws instead of your gifts.

Motivational Note
The Motivation Secret That's Right Under Your Nose:The Motivation123 Newsletter by Jason M. Gracia http://www.motivation123.com
ghYou might not realize now, but something you experienced in the past is the key to getting what you want in the future. But what does that really mean? 'Get what you want' has been used so many times that it has lost its effect. So let me be a little more specific.
You have a particular piece of information that, when used in the right way, will drive you to do the things you've always wanted to do with your life. It will literally make you feel like taking action - right now. That's a very useful piece of information. What is it and how do you use it? Let's find out.
The Five Percent Rule
The truth is, everyone has this information in their heads, but less than five percent of the population knows about it. They waste precious years and spend thousands of dollars looking for the answer to happiness without ever realizing the one thing they needed was right in front of them the entire time. And it's right in front of you, too. This happens all the time. People look 'out there' for the answers that are actually already inside them.
It reminds me of the famous story, Acres of Diamonds. An old farmer, hearing countless stories of people finding diamond mines all around him, sells his farm and spends the rest of his life covering the African continent looking for the valuable stones. Never finding any, he throws himself into a river out of depression and desperation. One day, the man who purchased the land from the old farmer walked across a creek on the property and noticed a shiny, glimmering rock. He brought it home and placed it on his fireplace mantle thinking it was an interesting piece of crystal.
Several weeks later, a friend visited the farm and was immediately drawn to the rock; he nearly fainted from what he held in his hands. Not a crystal at all, it turned out to be one of the largest diamonds ever discovered. The farm that was first sold so the owner could find diamonds 'out there' was in fact the most productive diamond mine on the entire African continent.
In a sense, the same thing is happening to people today. They are looking everywhere for the answers that are already inside them. And the answer you have inside you right now is sure to make an enormous impact in your life.
Something to Ask Yourself
It all starts with a simple question: Have you ever felt driven in the past? I'm not only talking about the drive to win Olympic medals or achieve larger-than-life dreams (although they're included). I'm talking about any time that you've felt motivated to do something and followed through with action. I know you have. Whether it's getting up for work every morning or taking care of the kids, you've felt driven to do thousands of things in the past. And because of that fact I can guarantee that you'll be able to create that feeling again and again whenever you need it.
Before moving on, I want to mention something to all the readers who want to change and improve but don't feel confident enough to go for it. Confidence is not only a major part of success, but it's easy to build and develop when you know how to do it. The Motivated Mind, our latest release, gives you the keys to feeling confident in every area of your life. It's quick, it's easy, and it works. For more information, visit this address:

UPDATE:Tuesday, August 2nd - I've received notice that Milton is in a state of semi-consciousness. It appears as though he is aware, as he responds to people talking to him & his condition has been upgraded to "stable".
That is good news & we need to keep sending out the get well vibes & prayers!
UPDATE: Thursday, August 4th - LITTLE MILTON DIES
Earlier this morning, Blues great Little Milton died from complications of the two strokes that he suffered last week. Little Milton was 70 years old.
Little Milton was born as Milton Campbell in Inverness, Mississippi on September 7th, 1934. He modeled himself after Blues great T-Bone Walker & in his teen years, worked the southern Blues circuit. It was there that he met & performed with a young musician named Ike Turner, who took him to Sam Phillips' Sun Records.
Milton signed with Sun Records in 1953 & waxed his first three sides there. The records (released in 1954 & '55), Beggin' My Baby/Somebody Told Me, If You love Me/Alone And Blue & Looking For My Baby/Lonesome For My Baby, did little action on the charts. In 1957, Milton waxed two sides for the Meteor label. Again, the two sides that he recorded, "Love At First Sight"/"Let's Boogie Baby" & "Let My Baby Be"/"Oh My Little Baby" went nowhere. In 1958, Milton moved on to St. Louis' Bobbin label.
It was at Bobbin, where Little Milton began having success. Becoming an A&R man, he signed a young lady named Fontella Bass & future Blues great, Albert King. In 1961, he moved on to Checker Records & in January of 1962, his second release for the label, "So Mean To Me" rose to #14 on Billboard's R&B chart.
Little Milton remained with Checker until 1970, during which time, he placed 17 songs in the Billboard R&B charts. He enjoyed 4 Top 10 R&B hits, including his biggest hit, 1961's #1 "We're Gonna Make It", as well as one of his most memorable hits, the 1969 re-make of Little Willie John's, "All Around The World", re-titled "Grits Ain't Groceries". He had 10 more songs reach the R&B Top 40 during his stay at Checker.
Milton moved to Stax Records in 1971 & continued having chart success & remained with Stax until 1976, when he moved to Glades Records for a two year stay. After that, it appears as though Little Milton didn't release anymore singles until resurfacing on MCA in 1983. His final R&B charting was 1983's "Age Ain't Nothin' But A Number", which peaked at # 89.
Little Milton moved on to Malaco Records in 1984, where he remained until 2002. In 1988, Little Milton was inducted into The Blues Hall Of Fame & won the W.C. Handy Blues Award, which is presented to the entertainer voted "Artist Of The Year". Another high point during this period, was his release of the Blues anthem, 1982's "The Blues Are Alright".
Earlier this year, he released his final CD "Think Of Me" for the Telarc label.
Little Milton is survived by his wife, Pat, one daughter & a son & his cousin, Soul great Laura Lee.
juicefreewithsoul.com sends our heartfelt condolences to the family of Little Milton

BOB JONES
The Man Behind 'The Man Behind The Mask' by: Kenya Yarbrough
Michael Jackson fans and foes are getting their fill of the behind the scenes madness of the international superstar, straight from the mouth of Bob Jones, his public relations chief for more than 16 years. The tell-all book "Michael Jackson: The Man Behind the Mask" (Select Books, Inc.) hit shelves in June. Jones, who sparked Jackson's title of King of Pop, was one of the veterans of the Mijack entourage, and left the camp without signing a confidentiality agreement.
Which subsequently means, details and intriguing information about a number of guarded facts including the three high-profile accusations of child molestation, Jackson's alleged sabotage scheme against his family, and the insinuation of Jackson's dislike for black people, are throughout the book's pages.

THE HUTCHINSON REPORT: Watts ... Forty Years After The Flames/Pt. 1 by: Earl Ofari Hutchinson
The young Nationa l Guard officer curtly and sternly ordered my high school buddies and me to keep moving down the street. He waved his bayoneted rifle menacingly at us as he barked out his orders. Behind him, a small army of white helmeted LAPD officers and battle fatigued dressed National Guardsman stood tensely with their rifles poised. I kept a wary eye on them as we nervously walked past the three deep barricades that ringed the streets around my house.
My friends and I were on our way home from summer school classes that hot August day forty years ago. The smoke from burning stores a few blocks away choked our eyes, and seared our lungs. In the distance we could hear the crackle of gunfire. The streets were strewn with empty liquor and cigarette cartons that had been hastily discarded by the horde of looters that for nearly four days roamed the streets near my house.

AUTOMOTIVE RHYTHMS: 2006 BMW 3 Series: Iconic Lines From German Minds by: Kimatni D. Rawlins
The thing I like most about a BMW is the fact that you can spot one a mile away. Unlike many of the vehicles on the market today - most which are as bland as tofu -- the styling of a Beamer is partly where it gets its stellar reputation. And of course, the rest comes from its performance numbers on the track, streets and highways. From the heavy hitting "7" to the husky X5, a BMW will always hold its own against rivals (with the less than stellar X3 the only exception). For '06, the biggest name getting the most airplay is the smalles t of the German cadre -- the all-new 3 Series. One thing you can always remember is that the "3" is one of only a few entry-level luxury sports that attract the guys and the gals without prejudice. Especially if that "3" is preceded by the 13th letter.

Eve couldn't have known she was sitting on prime real estate. Nestled within the peak of her thighs was what would become the crown jewel of her offspring; its core housing a river that can either transport a man to a euphoric heaven on earth - or cause all hell to break loose in his world. God gave Eve and her daughters an extraordinary endowment; that special thing He obviously wanted to keep on the hush in Eden. Adam got a whiff and ever since his sons have been inherently under its spell.

DOVEMAN: The Acrobat CD Release
Thursday, August 4 at 7:30
Doveman plays lamp rock and insomnia pop, drawing deeply from downtown jazz, new classical, slowcore, debonair '60's pop and ambient music to create an unusual and delicate sound that The New York Press says "evokes that rare moment when nostalgia and sadness meet love". Doveman's debut record, The Acrobat, is reminiscent of downbeat masters of melancholy like Nick Drake, Before and After Science-era Eno and the latter day Talk Talk and the music has the unmistakable ring of pre-dawn loneliness, as intimate as it is forlorn.
