Janice-Marie Johnson And A Taste Of Honey - NOW

After disbanding, the members of A Taste Of Honey continued on in the music business.

DONALD JOHNSON

Donald Johnson, continued on as a Bluesman of the highest order. Currently based in Canada, he lives in Calgary &  in 1997 & 2002, Real Blues Magazine named him "Best Canadian Blues Vocalist". He has also received several nominations for "Best Blues Drummer",  as well as "Best Blues Vocalist". He's released several Blues LPs & still tours with L.A. based Bluesman, Phillip Walker.

After surgery in the mid 1980s', Donald is now legally blind. In spite of the adversity, he has released 3 solo CDs since 1995.

PERRY KIBBLE

Unfortunately, Perry Kibble died in 1999. He is sorely missed!

HAZEL PAYNE

Hazel Payne has gone on to have a successful solo career in Europe & Japan. Recently, she performed in a Play, "Oh, What A Night", which also featured Kid Creole. She played the role of Roxie Rochelle, which had been played previously by Sheila Ferguson of The Three Degrees.

Hazel also has a son, Sterling who is following in her musical footsteps.

JANICE-MARIE JOHNSON

As for Janice-Marie Johnson, she continued making music. Over the years, we've heard her music in commercials such as Classic Coca Cola, Rold Gold Pretzels & Burger King. Her music has also been featured on TV shows such as "The Muppets Tonight", "Nothing Sacred", "Homeboys From Outer Space", "The Nanny", "Breast Men", "Access Hollywood" & "Oprah".

Recent releases have included her CD releases, "Hiatus Of The Heart" from 2000 & 2001s' "Until The Eagle Falls", which received 4 NAMA nominations for, "Artist Of The Year", "Best Song Or Single Of The Year",  " Best Short Or Long Form Video Of The Year" & "Best Producer".

In 2002, "Until The Eagle Falls" received the "Nammy" award from the Native American Music Awards, for "Best Producer" & Janice-Marie, J.P. Vercher & Video Porter Production, won the 2003 Indian Summer Festival "Film & Video" award, as well as "The Award Of Distinction". Janice-Marie is a proud Native American, having Stockbridge/Munsee/Mohican Native American roots.

In August of 2004, Janice-Marie Johnson & Hazel Payne joined forces to tape the PBS music special, "Get Down Tonight". The performed Sukiyaki & Boogie Oogie Oogie. Hazel Payne, went on to perform in the play mentioned above & to continue her solo career.

Janice-Marie Johnson has a new partner, Susan Thomas & A Taste Of Honey continues to "Boogie Oogie Oogie" for a new generation.

They recently appeared at "The Disco Ball" at Atlantic Citys' Taj Mahal Casino & they were excellent. Susan is more than capable on lead guitar & Janice-Marie still has that sweet, dusky voice & keeps that bass THUMPING! They have a very special blend & their chemistry, musicianship & good looks are beyond question.

With Janice-Marie Johnson & Susan Thomas, the legacy of A Taste Of Honey is in good hands & I look forward to hearing nothing but good things from them. Check out Janice-Marie & Susan when they come to your town!
