Spotlight On Dr. Atul Chokshi & Dr. Patel

Now, this is personal. Quite often, the people of my community do not receive the proper health care that they deserve. Too often they go to clinics that are short-staffed & overburdened & literally busting at the seams. Often, the doctors are simply too overwhelmed to offer patients the best in health care. Dr. Atul Chokshi & his staff are completely different from the norm.

Drs. Chokshi, Patel & staff are very attentive & are extremely thorough. Let me give you a personal testimony about Dr. Chokshi & the way that he deals with his patients....

In 1983, my step-father had a massive heart attack. Upon being admitted to St. Mary's Hospital in Brooklyn, Dr. Chokshi became his primary doctor. Dr. Chokshi gave him the very best of care & until he died of Cancer in 1990, he never received anything less than excellent care from Dr. Chokshi.

Fast-forward to 2002....one evening, my mother began experiencing shortness of breath & tingling in her arms. She was taken to St. Mary's Hospital & admitted. The geniuses there determined that the tingling was due to her diabetes. It was neuropathy, they claimed. This one doctor damn near broke his arm while patting himself on the back at his genius. One afternoon after he had examined her, he walked off with his colleagues talking about her "classic" symptoms.

One evening they prescribed Neurontin for her & when I arrived at the hospital, she could barely see, barely walk & was more than a bit out of it. Now, the night before, she was perfectly fine. I asked them what they had given her & when they told me, I told them that they'd better not give her that again. After a week, she was released & all was well...or so we thought.

In October of 2003, one evening she seemed to be suffering from a cold. Within a few hours, she couldn't breathe & had those "classic" diabetic symptoms of tingling in the arms. As it turned out, the good doctor couldn't have been more wrong. My mother was admitted again to St. Mary's hospital, this time, with a ventilator tube stuck down her throat for a week. She was suffering from congestive heart failure & that doctors' misdiagnosis of neuropathy almost cost her her life.

One evening, a doctor came to examine her. She kept looking at him & eventually, she said to him, "I know you." He looked at her & she told him, "You're Dr, Chokshi". When he looked at her in surprise, she went on to tell him that he treated her husband after his heart attack in 1983. Suddenly, it all came back to him & he was shocked that she remembered him from 19 years earlier. Needless to say, he became her primary doctor.

He examined her thoroughly & found that she had a renal artery leakage, a heart blockage as well as an abdominal aortic aneurysm. Now, how the other "geniuses" failed to pick up on all of that  still angers me. In their arrogance & lack of attention to detail, they misdiagnosed her symptoms.

For one thing, I've never heard of a diabetic having an arm cut off, much less having upper extremity circulatory problems. Most diabetics who suffer with circulatory problems usually end up losing limbs on their lower extremities. such as feet or legs.

Dr. Chokshi, immediately suspected a heart problem & he fixed her up in no time. He monitored her closely, monthly at that. He knew that she would eventually need more extensive heart surgery & prepared her for the inevitability of it. That day came in January of 2004, when she suffered another bout with congestive heart failure. At that point, she needed to have her heart valve replaced, the possibility of which, we had known all along.

Dr. Chokshi arranged for her surgery to be performed by Dr. Samuel Lang, the Chief Of Cardiac Surgery at St. Vincent Hospital. She came through with flying colors & needless to say, we all feel that Dr. Chokshi & his attention to detail & his thoroughness, saved her life. And we are very thankful to him, his staff & the Medical Staff of St. Vincent's Hospital.

After she regained her strength, he & Dr. Lang arranged for her aneurysm to be taken care of, again arranging for her operation to be performed by Dr. Robert Grossi, Chief Of  Vascular Surgery at St. Vincent's Hospital.

Drs. Chokshi & Patel save lives & are attentive to their patients. They are excellent doctors & I recommend them whole-heartedly. So much so, that I switched doctors & now Drs. Chokshi & Patel are my doctors as well.

Dr. Chokshi also works with the senior citizens. For those who qualify, he offers discounts of up to 50%. Drs. Chokshi & Patel are excellent doctors, with a great bedside manner. I have never been anything less than pleased at their treatment & their many patients will readily testify about their skills & courteous treatment.

Dr. Chokshi saves lives & adds quality to it as well. My mother thanks him, as do I. Here are his office locations:
